Hi All the Bonds fans! Some updates/random thoughts while we all collectively countdown to SPECTRE (US release date of November 6, 2015).
- If you live in Cincinnati, get over to the Madtree brewing taproom RIGHT. NOW. They have two “007 Pale Ales,” one is called James Bond (made with British yeast), and the other is Felix Leiter (you guessed it – with American yeast). I can endorse the James Bond, it’s very good.
- I am 100% here for the Idris Elba rumor cycle currently on the upswing. God loves us and wants us to be happy, therefore I must believe Idris Elba will be the next Bond.
- I am a Daniel Craig fan and think he is easily in the top 3 Bonds between Moore and Connery (YEAH, I SAID IT IN THAT ORDER). But after watching the 3 minute Spectre trailer with OH SO SERIOUS Sam Mendes touches all over it, I find myself really missing a lighter witty Bond. Fiance and I are trying to figure out what a humorous Bond would look like in this era. Since it seems like the Bond franchise has gotten increasingly respectable for serious actors/directors given Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Sam Mendes, and now Christopher Waltz, who the hell in the entertainment industry could pull this off? Anglophone pop culture seems to be lacking in sexy yet earnest comedic wit (and has been for decades, I guess), and that makes me sad.
- I’m mildly worried from the Spectre trailers that the brilliant and beautiful Naomie Harris will not get the role she deserves as reinvented Moneypenny. I still can’t get into Ralph Fiennes but I’ll try to be patient. Jury’s out for me on new spotty Q, because Desmond Llewellyn is my dead boyfriend, but yaaaay gadgets. And WHAT’S. UP. Christopher Waltz.
